In 2390, King Rama III builds Wat Chalerm Prakiat. King Rama III then invites LP Gate of Wat Arun Ratchawararam to become the 1st abbot of Wat Chalerm Prakiat. LP Gate is a famous monk during that era and know to posses highly skill in magic science. LP Gate was born in 2348 and passed away in 2429 at the age of 81. During King Rama III, Wat Chalerm has not been fully completed. It was in the reign of Rama 4 that Wat Chalerm was fully completed.
In the year of 2401-10, LP Gate abbot of Wat Chalerm Prakiat builds a batch of Somdej. A total of 84,000 pieces of Somdej were build with many different style & pim. Many well known monks were invited to attend the blessing ceremony held at Wat Chalerm Prakiat. Somdej Phra Puttajarn Toh of Wat Rakhang Kositaram presided over the blessing ceremony. After the blessing, these Somdej were store inside a pagoda.
Years later, theses Somdej make it way out from the pagoda. The jar that kept these Somdej was tight seal & in good condition. Water did not reach inside the jar. So basically all these Somdej is in a very good condition. The 1st batch that was taken out from the pagoda is in yellowish, material is smooth similar to Somdej Wat Bangkhunprom. Those with 5 yant surrounding the Somdej are most popular & rarely seen. A good substitute for Somdet Puttajarn To Somdej. Somdej Wat Chalerm Prakiat are known to have good Puttakun Metta Mahaniyom, Klaw Klad, Kongrapan.
These batches of Somdej are getting rarer in the market now. Normally u would see thai dealer or collectors wearing due to its affordable pricing and good power. Fakes have been seen in the market for over 50 yrs. But with the expertise of expert, they can easily identify the genuine piece.
